Keep digging!

What is this?

Just a room with a pit... The warning sign next to the pit says: „Beware of 31ft pit! For recharging Magic Missle only!“

If the players are not interested in the pit, they can simply cross the room. But which self-respecting adventure would ignore a pit with a warning sign?
